Purpose

The purpose of this Notice is to inform the extramural community that PA-21-235, “NIMH Exploratory/Developmental Research Grant (R21 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)", will be expired as of January 8, 2025.

The National Institute of Mental Health encourages applicants to instead consider submitting an application to PA-20-195, “NIH Exploratory/Developmental Research Grant Program (Parent R21 Clinical Trial Not Allowed", or future reissuances of PA-20-195. Potential applicants should review the NIMH Research Areas to identify the range of scientific areas supported by NIMH. 

Alternately, applicants may consider submitting an application to PA-21-219,"Joint NINDS/NIMH Exploratory Neuroscience Research Grant (R21 Clinical Trial Optional)", or future iterations of PA-21-219 which support exploratory and foundational research projects that align with the scientific mission of NIMH. 

Interested applicants are invited to review the guidance in the respective NOFOs and consult with relevant NIMH Scientific/Research staff prior to submitting an application.
