Purpose
The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) intend to reissue a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), PA-09-174 “Women's Mental Health During Pregnancy and the Postpartum Period (R01)”, which expired on May 8, 2012.
This Notice is being provided to inform potential applicants that they may use the Parent R01 FOA, PA-11-260, for upcoming application due dates.
The FOA, which will use the NIH Research Project Grant (R01) award mechanism, is expected to be published in Summer 2012 with an expected receipt date in Fall 2012. Details of the planned FOA are provided below.
Research Initiative Details
This planned FOA is intended to outline priority areas for research in the area of women’s mental health during pregnancy and the postpartum period. These areas include, but are not limited to: research in basic and clinical neuroscience, in clinical course, epidemiological and risk factors research, and in interventions and services research. The NIMH, NICHD, and NIDA are committed to supporting research that will increase scientific understanding of and treatments for mental disorders experienced by women during and following pregnancy. Reduction of the public health burden of mental disorder during this perinatal period will improve the health and well-being of new mothers, their children and families.
