Purpose
The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) intends to issue a Request for Applications (RFA) for Unbiased in vitro Analysis of Neurobiological Function awards. This award is intended to support innovative projects that use neurobiological assay platforms to measure changes in neuronal function with the intent to move basic neuroscience discoveries into translational applications including novel target identification and drug discovery. Examples of functional endpoints used in proposed projects might include measures of synaptic signaling and function, neurite outgrowth, protein synthesis/modification, cell differentiation etc. Projects supported through this initiative are expected to be aligned with the research priorities and gap areas identified in the NIMH Strategic Plan (http://www.nimh.nih.gov/about/strategic-planning-reports/index.shtml).
This notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects.
The RFA is expected to be published in the summer of 2010. This RFA will utilize the R01 mechanism.
