Purpose
The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) intends to issue a Request for Applications (RFA) to solicit applications for the Biobehavioral Research Awards for Innovative New Scientists (BRAINS) (R01). This award is intended to support the research and research career development of promising Early Stage Investigators (as defined by NIH in NOT-OD-09-013) who plan to make a long term career commitment to research in specific mission areas of the NIMH. This award seeks to assist these individuals in launching an innovative clinical, translational, basic or services research program that holds the potential to profoundly transform the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of mental disorders. For FY 2010, the BRAINS program will focus on the research priorities and gap areas identified in the NIMH Strategic Plan (http://www.nimh.nih.gov/about/strategic-planning-reports/index.shtml).
This notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects. The RFA is expected to be published in September 2009 with an expected receipt date in November, 2009.
This RFA will utilize the R01 grant mechanism. Given the emphasis on early stage investigators, multi-PI applications will not be allowed.
APPLICATIONS ARE NOT BEING SOLICITED AT THIS TIME.
