On December 13, 2004, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) issued a Request for Applications (RFA) entitled, RFA-MH-05-007: Identifying Autism Susceptibility Genes that is available at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-MH-05-007.html. The goal of this RFA is to solicit applications to identify specific genes and gene variants in localized chromosomal regions that confer susceptibility to autism.
This Notice is to inform the scientific community that the Medical Research Council (MRC) of the United Kingdom (UK) (http://www.mrc.ac.uk) has joined this activity as a participating organization. MRC intends to commit $200,000 per year up to 5 years (a total of $1 million). Funding after two years is contingent upon MRC review of progress. MRC will provide to NIH its co-funding share for UK-based components of projects funded by NIH received in response to this RFA that MRC elects to co-fund. Although the financial plans of MRC provides support for this program, awards pursuant to this funding opportunity are contingent upon the availability of MRC funds and the receipt of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
Because the applications may be co-funded by MRC, all applicants should submit a brief letter to NIH indicating that the application and the summary statements for such applications can be shared with MRC. Letters of authorization should be prepared by the principal investigator and co-signed by the official signing for the applicant organization.
