Specific Areas of Research Interest:
National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD):
NIMHD is interested in interdisciplinary training in data science skills and knowledge in the behavioral and social sciences, exploring the multifaceted influences of factors such as health behaviors, psycho-socio-cultural elements, social determinants of health (SDoH), and environmental factors on health outcomes through the life course (see the NIMHD Research Framework). The emphasis of the training program should encompass a broad spectrum of skills, ranging from data collection to community-engaged research to advanced analysis techniques including using artificial intelligence, simulation modeling and other complex data analysis methods. Trainees could learn how to gather dynamic, longitudinal data in real-time using wearable devices, sensors, and smartphones. As well as delve into the intricacies of data collection through platforms like social media and/or gain expertise in analyzing existing study databases. The NIMHD Science Collaborative for Health disparities and Artificial intelligence bias Reduction (ScHARe) platform is a resource that is available to trainees.
Populations that experience health disparities of interest are African Americans/Blacks, Hispanics/Latinos, American Indians/Alaska Natives, Asians, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders, Middle Eastern/North African, socioeconomically disadvantaged populations, underserved rural populations, sexual and gender minority populations, and individuals with disabilities.
