Purpose

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute intends to promote a new initiative by publishing a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to solicit applications for phase II clinical trials to test novel strategies for increasing participation in cardiac rehabilitation (CR) and pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) in adults after a qualifying event/condition.

This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and competitive research programs.

The FOA is expected to be published in Summer 2017 with an expected application due date in Fall 2017.

This FOA will utilize the R61/R33 activity code. Details of the planned FOA are provided below.

Research Initiative Details

This Notice encourages investigators with expertise in the areas of cardiac rehabilitation, pulmonary rehabilitation, and implementation science to consider applying for this FOA. Collaborative investigations combining expertise in telehealth, internet-based interventions, behavioral modification, and other novel techniques for health-related interventions will be encouraged.

The purpose of this initiative is to develop and test strategies to increase the utilization of CR and PR in eligible patients. The objectives are to test novel promising approaches to increase use of CR and PR overall, to reduce disparities in their utilization, and to document improvement in key clinical and patient-centered outcomes from CR and PR performed in either traditional or non-traditional settings.

APPLICATIONS ARE NOT BEING SOLICITED AT THIS TIME.
