National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI)
Purpose
The purpose of this Notice is to inform the scientific community of the NHLBI's plans for implementing the NIH HIV/AIDS Research Priorities and Guidelines for Determining AIDS Funding (see NOT-OD-15-137). This Notice provides guidelines for assignment of high-, medium-, or low-priority for AIDS-designated funding to research applicationsThe scientific and technical merit of NHLBI AIDS applications will be determined through peer review. These guidelines for priority assignment apply only to research applications requesting AIDS-designated funds.
The NIH uses these guidelines to ensure that AIDS resources are supporting only high or medium HIV/AIDS-relevant research priorities. Projects designated low priority cannot be supported by AIDS-designated funds. Only NHLBI research applications that are fully responsive to NIH high- or medium- priority scientific areas (i.e., all project aims address high- or medium HIV/AIDS-relevant research priorities) will be eligible to receive NHLBI AIDS-designated funds. Projects that are only partially aligned with the NIH-designated high- or medium- research priorities (i.e., some project aims are designated either low-priority or non-HIV/AIDS-relevant research) will not be supported by NHLBI AIDS-designated funds.
Accordingly, applicants are strongly encouraged to contact NHLBI AIDS Program staff prior to the submission of their applications for guidance on the NIH HIV/AIDS research priorities.
