Purpose

Major knowledge gaps remain about the epidemiology of HIV-related heart, lung, and blood diseases and sleep disorders. To address these scientific areas, the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) announces interest in R01 applications that: 1) address the epidemiology (e.g., the incidence, prevalence, progression, detailed phenotyping, and risk factors) of HIV-related heart, lung, and blood diseases and sleep disorders in adults, and 2) leverage existing cohorts and longitudinal studies of HIV-infected people.

The NHLBI is particularly interested in applications proposing to study the epidemiology and related mechanisms in the development of HIV-related coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, vascular disease, chronic lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, thromboembolism, and anemia.

R01 applications proposing epidemiological studies must conform to the requirements of, and be submitted under, RFA-HL-14-023. These applications should also adhere to the published NIH Office of AIDS Research guidelines in NOT-OD-15-137.
