Purpose

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is seeking to better understand the progression of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) through the initiation of an observational study of adults newly diagnosed with MDS, titled The National Myelodysplastic Syndromes Natural History Study (The National MDS Study) . To manage this study, the NHLBI plans to solicit proposals from qualified organizations to establish:

The electronic RFPs contain all information needed to submit a proposal. The anticipated Receipt Date for proposals is June 5, 2013.

Research Initiative Details

The objective of The National MDS Study is to establish a scientific resource to facilitate the conduct of basic and translational research on the evolution of MDS over time and improve the diagnosis and clinical management of affected individuals. The resource will include a comprehensive, standardized longitudinal clinical data set linked to consistently-processed, well-annotated biospecimens. Potential uses for this resource include: (1) identifying genetic, epigenetic and biological factors associated with initiation and progression of MDS; (2) uncovering fundamental information on the changes that occur in hematopoietic stem cells and bone marrow stroma during normal aging; (3) revealing clinically-useful biomarkers; (4) identifying potential targets for new interventions; and (5) facilitating the understanding of how patients with MDS are managed in practice.

Potential offerors are responsible for downloading the RFP and any attachments. It is also the offerors' responsibility to monitor the FedBizOpps web page for the release of any amendments to the RFP. Interested parties must respond to the solicitation in order to be considered for award of any resultant contract.

Awards for The National MDS Study are anticipated to be made on or around July 1, 2014. Efforts for the Data Coordinating Center and Central Laboratory and Biorepository are expected to begin on July 1, 2014 and to end on June 30, 2022.
