Purpose

The National Human Genome Research Institute announces an interest in providing funds for Administrative Supplements related to stakeholder engagement in genomic medicine research. These funds are intended to support partnerships between genomics researchers and stakeholders such as professional societies, payers, public health and regulatory agencies, communities, patients, patient groups, or caregivers, to enhance the translation of genomics research into improved clinical care or public health.

Topics of Interest

Stakeholder engagement has been shown to strengthen research studies and enhance the translation of research results into clinical care and public health. Additionally, the meaningful involvement and feedback of stakeholders such as professional societies, payers, public health and regulatory agencies, communities, patients, patient groups, or caregivers helps to understand, address, and overcome disparities in health and healthcare as well as identify and eliminate the reasons that some interventions and therapies are not implemented broadly. Studies are encouraged that will solicit and be responsive to stakeholder input regarding study design, conduct, and outcomes, and that will collaborate with relevant stakeholders throughout the research process. Including stakeholders directly in the process of prioritizing, designing, and conducting research, and evaluating the partnership process is particularly encouraged.

Examples of research topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Convening stakeholders through deliberative process or Town Hall approaches
  • Adding stakeholders to project or consortium-wide Working Groups
  • Including stakeholders in the development and dissemination of participant-centered approaches to informed consent and results disclosure in genomic studies
  • Including stakeholders in the development and design of clinical genomic studies.

Eligibility

?This supplement opportunity is available to: (a)current NHGRI grantees who are part of existing research consortia that are not expected and/or supported to engage stakeholdersor (b)who are funded as independent investigators.
