Purpose

On September 13, 2017, the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) issued PAR-17-482. This PAR invited applications for research developing comparative approaches that can be used to understand genome structure and function and the relationship between genomic features and phenotypes. This program supports studies that enable the use of a diverse array of species to advance our ability to understand basic biological processes related to human health and disease, as well as studies that develop novel analytical tools and resources for the comparative genomics research community. 

On June 20, 2018, NHGRI and USDA (NIFA) published NOT-HG-18-007. The purpose of this Notice was to inform potential applicants from the USDA community that the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) will participate in PAR-17-482 "Comparative Genomics Research Program" for three application cycles: October 5, 2018 (new applications); November 5, 2018 (resubmission and revision applications) February 5, 2019 (new applications); March 5, 2019 (resubmission and revision applications); June 5, 2019 (new applications); July 5, 2019 (resubmission and revision applications).

To assist potential applicants in responding to the above-referenced PAR, this Notice provides the following information:

  • A Pre-Application Information Webinar for potential applicants will be provided on September 13, 2018 from 2:00PM - 4:00PM Eastern Time.

The intent of the pre-application webinar is to provide an overview of the Comparative Genomics Research program PAR and to address questions from potential applicants interested in both the NHGRI and USDA programs. The webinar is optional and not required for application submission. The webinar may conclude before the scheduled time depending on the number of questions.

NHGRI and USDA staff will post information about how to participate in the Webinar at https://www.genome.gov/27571974/. Prospective applicants are encouraged to submit their questions or comments regarding the PAR to gsp@mail.nih.gov by close of business on September 12, 2018.  Following the webinar, NHGRI and USDA will post the slides presented during the Webinar on the same website. Prospective applicants with inquiries concerning the PAR who are unable to participate in the Webinar are encouraged to view the summary of questions and answers after the Webinar.
