Purpose

The NHGRI intends to promote a new initiative by publishing a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to solicit applications for research projects to support new analyses of the data in the catalogs of functional elements being generated as part of the ENCODE Project (www.genome.gov/ENCODE), specifically from researchers who are outside of the umbrella of this project. The ENCODE Project is designed to produce a catalog of functional elements in the human and well-studied model organism genomes for use by the research community to expand on basic biological knowledge and to interpret disease mapping studies. The analysis activities to be supported might include developing new methods to improve on analysis and interpretation of ENCODE data, combining ENCODE data with related functional genomic data to derive new biological insights, or to use the ENCODE data to improve on the analysis of disease mapping studies to identify causal variants.

This notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects.

The FOA is expected to be published in Autumn, 2011 with an expected receipt date in Autumn, 2011.

This FOA will utilize the U01 activity code. Details of the planned Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) are provided below.

Research Initiative Details

This Notice encourages investigators with expertise and insights into this area of bioinformatics and computational biology to begin to consider applying for this new FOA. Collaborative investigations combining expertise in genomic data analysis, statistics, high-throughput functional genomics and model organism research will be encouraged and these investigators should also begin considering applying for this application.

APPLICATIONS ARE NOT BEING SOLICITED AT THIS TIME.
