Purpose

This Notice serves to announce the release of a new biospecimen request functionality through the NICHD Data and Specimen Hub (DASH). Biospecimens from eight studies in HIV/AIDS, preterm labor and birth, and pregnancy may now be requested through DASH.

Studies with biospecimens currently available include:

  • Genomic and Proteomic Network for Preterm Birth Research (GPN):
  • NICHD International Site Development Initiative (NISDI)
  • Mothers and Infants Cohort Study (MICS)

DASH was launched in 2015 as a centralized resource for researchers to store and access data from NICHD-funded research studies. Many of these studies collected biospecimens, some of which will be made available for use in secondary research. DASH does not serve as a biorepository but will function as a portal for requesting biospecimens associated with data stored in DASH.

Full descriptions of the available studies and instructions on how to apply for biospecimens and/or data online are available via the DASH website. Biospecimens are available to qualified investigators who have funding to support the proposed research.Funding to perform research using these specimens may be obtained from federal or non-federal sources. There is no cost to the investigator other than the cost of preparing and shipping the specimens to the research laboratory.
