Purpose

NICHD uses a single application due date of May 25 each year for T32 institutional training grants. Start dates are May 1 for most T32 awards. Renewal applications from current grantees are almost always submitted the year prior to expiration of the current award cycle. In a few cases, however, PD(s)/PI(s) submit renewal applications almost two years (23 months) before the project end date. These "early" T32 renewal applications potentially increase the burden of review and, if successful, create award overlap situations. Therefore, NICHD is implementing the following policy, effective with FY2019 applications:

• For the May 25, 2018 application due date and beyond, NICHD will NOT accept for review any applications that are submitted more than one year prior to the current project end date. Any such early applications will be withdrawn, and PD(s)/PI(s) will have the option of submitting the renewal application the following year.

T32 grantees who are approaching the end of their project period are strongly advised to contact Program Staff to discuss planning for renewal or closeout of the current award.
