Purpose

This Notice is to announce the opportunity to request administrative supplements to existing NIH research grants, to support the research on multipurpose prevention technologies and other MPID priority research.

Eligible investigators with existing grants addressing HIV and Pregnancy prevention may apply.
Key areas of interest are ones that focus on topics such as but not limited to:

  • advancing the understanding of the interaction between HIV prevention modalities and contraceptives on the hormone milieu and the genital immunity
  • understanding the relationship between hormonal contraceptives and HIV acquisition
  • potential drug-drug interactions in multi-purpose prevention technologies with focus on clinical outcomes such as ovulation and pregnancy
  • hormonal exposure effects, by the various progestins, on the immune cells and HIV acquisition

Parent grants may be issues from any branch at NICHD. NIH intends to commit $650,000 in FY2017 to supplement 4-5 awards for a one year period. The maximum award budget is $75,000-100,000 in direct cost, and the work must be completed within the approved project period of the parent award.
The supplement request must stay within the original Council-approved scope of the parent award.

All applicants are strongly encouraged to discuss potential requests with the NIH contacts listed below, as well as their NICHD program officer.

Administrative supplement requests must conform to the requirements of, and be submitted under, PA-16-287.  Administrative supplement applications will be evaluated by NIH program staff, who will consider parent IC interest, the ability of the proposed supplement activities to increase the parent award’s overall impact within the original scope of award.
