Section I. Funding Opportunity Description

The topics of research that may be supported through this FOA have been expanded to encompass research interests of NICHD.

NICHD: Research on better and location/population-specific approaches to rehabilitation and recovery across the lifespan are of particular interest to NCMRR/NICHD. Areas of opportunity and research include but are not limited to:

  • Less expensive, well-fitting prosthetic devices and training in their use
  • Design and maintenance of wheelchairs or other devices to enhance mobility for LMICs
  • Use of electronic devices to deliver services: population specific computer games or apps to provide cognitive rehabilitation
  • Use of surveillance systems and electronic storage of information to allow collection of data for epidemiology or clinical trials enhance capacity, share data
  • Better ways to involve the family in home care: improve service delivery; community participation; health maintenance programs
  • Ways to integrate children with physical or learning disabilities into appropriate educational systems
  • Ways to target health promotion better nutrition, especially for young children and infants, reduction of targeted risky behaviors in specific settings within LMIC
