Notice Number: NOT-HD-14-001
Release Date: January 13, 2014
Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD)
The purpose of this Notice is to provide potential applicants additional instructions to clarify the process for obtaining the letters of support required when submitting an application in response to PAR-13-358 “Opportunities for Collaborative Research at the NIH Clinical Center (U01).”
As described in the instructions for the "PHS 398 Research Plan" form in Section IV of PAR-13-358, U01 applications submitted in response to this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) must include a letter from the Director of the NIH Clinical Center and a letter from the respective NIH Institute/Center to confirm that the Clinical Center facilities will be able to accommodate the proposed research and that the intramural scientist from the respective NIH Institute/Center will be able to collaborate on the project. U01 applications submitted without both letters will be considered incomplete and will not be reviewed.
For those applicants who submitted an X02 pre-application, as described in the companion FOA (PAR-13-357), the X02 pre-application is considered to be a request for the required letters of support. Instructions are provided in PAR-13-358 for U01 applicants who did not submit an X02 pre-application. These instructions are now modified, as described below.
1. Letters of Intent: The instructions for "Letters of Intent" in Section IV of PAR-13-358 will no longer apply. Letters of Intent will not be accepted for this FOA.
2. Letters of Support: U01 applicants who did not submit an X02 pre-application, or who did not receive letters of support following the administrative review of their X02 pre-application, may request the required letters of support by following the guidance at: http://www.cc.nih.gov/translational-research-resources/U01/letters-of-support.html.
