Purpose

The purpose of this Notice is to clarify that the scope of the funding opportunity announcement (FOA) PAR-13-095, as described in the announcement, remains unchanged, but is restricted to research on the following developmental and pathological conditions:

  • Research on developmental disorders, including structural birth defects and intellectual disabilities
  • Research on the pathophysiology and management of chronically injured nervous and musculoskeletal systems (including stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and orthopedic conditions); repair and recovery of motor and cognitive function; functional plasticity, adaptation, and windows of opportunity for rehabilitative interventions
  • Research on reproductive pathophysiology, development of more effective strategies for management, and prevention of conditions that compromise fertility.

Although applicants are free to submit a stem cell application to the parent NIH R21 announcement, those responding to PAR-13-095 must make clear the applications address developmental disorders, medical rehabilitation or reproductive pathophysiology.

Other aspects of these FOAs remain unchanged.
