If you have already submitted an application in response to this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) and no corrections are needed, then no further action on your part is required.  If, however, you need to make any corrections to your application in light of the clarification of submission instructions described below, or if you wish to take advantage of this additional time to improve your application, then you may remove the application from the review process and submit a new application on or before the new receipt date of February 28, 2011. Such applications that are within the two day viewing window  should be rejected  by the Signing Official through eRA Commons immediately. Such applications that have been assigned must be withdrawn from the review process by faxing a letter signed by the Principal Investigator and institutional Signing Official to the Division of Receipt and Referral at 301-480-1987; email communications are not accepted to withdraw an application.  To avoid confusion please change the title for the next application.

Clarification of Submission Instructions
In Section IV 6 “Other Submission Requirements” under the heading “PHS398 Research Plan Component Sections” there was a typographical error in the bullet stating “Introduction (required for a application) is limited to 1 page.”  This bullet should have used the standard language “Introduction (required for a resubmission application) is limited to 1 page.”

Since resubmission applications are not allowed for this FOA, the introduction page is not applicable and therefore is not allowed.  Any applications submitted in response to this FOA will be considered “new” applications, and reviewers will not see or consider any previous summary statements or responses to the critiques. The proper page limits for the application include 1 page for specific aims and 6 pages for the Research Strategy.
