Clarification of Requirements for RFA-HD-07-004: Data Coordinating Center for the NICHD Cooperative Multicenter Maternal Fetal Medicine Units (U10)

The purpose of this notice is to revise and clarify the budget requirements for applications submitted in response to RFA-HD-07-004 (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-HD-07-004.html).  Two specific items in the RFA are revised to reflect the fact that there is no limitation on the direct cost of the budget request so long as the budget is at or under total costs of $4.47 million per year.

Revision:  Funds Available

The current RFA language states:  “The NICHD intends to commit approximately $4.47 million in total costs [Direct plus Facilities and Administrative (F & A) costs] in FY 2008 to fund one new or competing continuation grant in response to this RFA.  An applicant may request a project period of up to five years and a budget for direct costs up to $2.7 - 3 million per year.”

This is revised to state:  “The NICHD intends to commit approximately $4.47 million in total costs [Direct plus Facilities and Administrative (F & A) costs] in FY 2008 to fund one new or renewal (formerly competing continuation) grant in response to this RFA.  An applicant may request a project period of up to five years and a budget for total costs up to or equaling $4.7 million for FY2008.  Requests for future years may be escalated for recurring costs at a cap of 3% per year.”

Revision:  Other Submission Requirements/Budget Preparation

The current RFA language states:  “The budget is limited to $2.7 - 3 million in direct costs and must not exceed $4.47 million in total costs for FY2008.  Requests for future years may be escalated for recurring costs at a cap of 3% per year.”

This is revised to state:  “The budget must not exceed $4.47 million in total costs for FY2008.  Requests for future years may be escalated for recurring costs at a cap of 3% per year.”
