Purpose

The purpose of this Notice is to inform applicants of the scientific areas of programmatic need for the 2024 application due date for PAR-24-224 "Maximizing Opportunities for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) Organizational Research Education Award to Promote Diversity (UE5 - Clinical Trial Not Allowed)".

Background

The goal of the MOSAIC Research Education Award (UE5) is to support educational activities for MOSAIC K99/R00 scholars that will equip them with the professional skills, and provide them with the appropriate mentoring opportunities and professional networks to allow them to transition into, advance, and succeed in independent, tenure-track or equivalent research-intensive faculty careers. The MOSAIC UE5 program provides support to organizations such as scientific societies or academic institutions to provide mentoring, networking, career development and skills building activities for cohorts of postdoctoral and early-career faculty scholars supported by MOSAIC K99/R00 awards at institutions across the Nation. 

The MOSAIC UE5 program supports scholars funded through the following NOFOs:

  • PAR-24-225 - Maximizing Opportunities for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) Postdoctoral Career Transition Award to Promote Diversity (K99/R00 - Independent Clinical Trial Not Allowed)
  • PAR-24-226 - Maximizing Opportunities for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) Postdoctoral Career Transition Award to Promote Diversity (K99/R00 - Independent Clinical Trial Required)
  • PAR-24-227 - Maximizing Opportunities for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) Postdoctoral Career Transition Award to Promote Diversity (K99/R00 - Independent Basic Experimental Studies with Humans Required (BESH)

Scientific Areas of Programmatic Need

 Applicants must be able to provide well-designed and appropriate mentoring, skills building, networking and professional development in one or more of the following scientific areas of program priority:

  • Cell biology.
  • Biochemistry, molecular biology, and biophysics.
  • Neuroscience related to basic, clinical and translational research, mental health and addiction.
  • Basic, clinical and translational physiology and pathophysiology of multiple human organ systems.
  • Population health studies, including health promotion, minority health and health disparities. 

Applications that can broadly cover more than one of the areas above are also encouraged.

This Notice applies to the September 26, 2024 application due date of the following NOFO:

  • PAR-24-224 - Maximizing Opportunities for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) Organizational Research Education Award to Promote Diversity (UE5 - Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

All instructions in the SF424 (R&R) Application Guide and the funding opportunity announcement used for submission must be followed, with the following addition:

  • For funding consideration, applicants should include “NOT-GM-24-025” (without quotation marks) in the Agency Routing Identifier field (box 4B) of the SF424 R&R form. 

Applications nonresponsive to terms of this NOSI will be withdrawn from consideration for this initiative.
