Issued by

National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS)

Purpose

This Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) encourages applications for support of conferences focused on evidence-informed interventions to enhance training, workforce development and diversity in the biomedical research enterprise.

Background

The dissemination of knowledge through conferences stimulates hypothesis-driven inquiry into evidence-informed approaches in biomedical research education and training, workforce development, and diversity. Conferences represent a valuable opportunity for practitioners, researchers, and other consumers of evidence-informed approaches to interact, collaborate, share experiences and solutions, and to learn from experts within, across, and outside their professional fields.

Areas of Interest

NIGMS encourages applications that propose a conference* that focuses on training, workforce development, and diversity, for example by:

  • Offering opportunities to foster cross-institutional collaborations through learning and networking and to advance evidence-informed practices in the management and administration of NIGMS training programs.
  • Bringing together a community for discussion of innovations in theoretical paradigms, methodologies, tools, and approaches that have practical implications in the design of programs that intervene to improve student, trainee, faculty, administrator, and institutional climate and outcomes.
  • Convening individuals who are at the forefront of the development, administration, and implementation of research training, mentor training, leadership development and career transition efforts, and institution and institutional climate transformations.
  • Highlighting interventions that are feasible, adaptable, scalable, sustainable, and disseminable to the biomedical research enterprise.

*Please see NIGMS' Support for Scientific Meetings for additional information and restrictions.

Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to discuss the scientific meeting purpose, goals, themes, and topics for potential responsiveness to this NOSI with the contact listed below. Note: A discussion with the listed contact does not replace the required Permission to Submit letter.
