The purpose of this Notice is to inform the research community that applications from R15-eligible institutions offering degrees in biomedical engineering (e.g., BSE, MSEE) are no longer eligible for the Research Enhancement Award Program (REAP) R15 FOAs which target health professional schools and graduate schools. While biomedical engineering schools were included in the definition of health professional schools in the past, this is no longer the case (see Health Professional School or College definition in the NIH glossary). Institutions offering degrees in biomedical engineering are eligible for the following Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) R15 FOAs: PAR-21-155 “Academic Research Enhancement Award for Undergraduate-Focused Institutions (R15 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) and PAR-21-154 “Academic Research Enhancement Award for Undergraduate-Focused Institutions (R15 Clinical Trial Required).
This is effective with the next standard R15 application due date of February 25, 2022.
