Purpose
The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) and the Division of Mathematical Sciences (DMS) in the Directorate for Mathematical and Physical Sciences at the National Science Foundation (NSF) plan to support research in mathematics and statistics on questions in the biological and biomedical sciences. Both agencies recognize the need for promoting research at the interface between the mathematical sciences and the life sciences. This program is designed to encourage new collaborations, as well as to support existing ones. NIGMS and DMS anticipate making 12 to 20 awards totaling up to $5 million per year. It is expected that each award will be between $100,000 to $400,000 (total costs) per year for a duration of three to five years. Applications should be submitted to NSF (Program solicitation 17-569). Specific information concerning the application and review process is available at https://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2017/nsf17569/nsf17569.htm
