Purpose

The purpose of this Notice is to provide revised application instructions for PAR-16-110 "Bridges to the Baccalaureate (R25)" FOA. The modifications are as follows:

  • Other Attachment Section has been updated
  • Use of Sample Format Table A is suggested to provide information on currently active undergraduate student development and research-training programs.
  • The Undergraduate Training Table 8D, Program Outcomes: Undergraduate must be included in the application and as part of the RPPR in the Reporting section.
  • Updated Progress Report (for Renewal Application) section.
  • Updated Reporting section.
  • Peer Review contact has been updated.

Part 2. Section IV.2. Content and Form of Application Submission

SF424 (R&R) Other Project Information Component

Current Language:
Other Attachments. An Advisory Committee is not a required component of a Research Education program.  However, if an Advisory Committee is intended, provide a plan for the appointment of an Advisory Committee to monitor progress of the research education program. The composition, roles, responsibilities, and desired expertise of committee members, frequency of committee meetings, and other relevant information should be included. Describe how the Advisory Committee will evaluate the overall effectiveness of the program. Proposed Advisory Committee members should be named in the application if they have been invited to participate at the time the application is submitted.  Renewal applications with Advisory Committees should include the names of all committee members during the past project period.  Please name your file “Advisory_Committee.pdf”
The filename provided for each “Other Attachment” will be the name used for the bookmark in the electronic application in eRA Commons.

Applicants are encouraged to use NIGMS CareerTrac to provide data on student outcomes for up to 15 years, if applicable. The expected student outcomes include the following:

  • Number of total Bridges participant slots awarded in the previous funding cycle
  • Number of Bridges participant slots requested in renewal application
  • Number of Bridges participants currently supported
  • Number of Bridges participants who withdrew while at 2yr institution
  • Number of Bridges participants who completed the Bridges program (alumni)
  • Number of Bridges alumni who transferred to a 4yr institution
  • Number of Bridges alumni who remain at 4yr institution
  • Number of Bridges alumni who withdrew from 4yr institution
  • Number of Bridges alumni who completed baccalaureate degree program
  • Number of Bridges alumni who entered post baccalaureate program
  • Number of Bridges alumni who enrolled in MS program
  • Number of Bridges alumni who completed MS program
  • Number of Bridges alumni who enrolled in PhD program
  • Number of Bridges alumni who completed a PhD program
  • Number of Bridges alumni who enrolled in MD program

Describe in the Progress Report what has been learned through the program evaluation and what has been added, modified or deleted as a result of program evaluation. Evaluation reports, if available, can be included in the Appendix. Describe any previously funded Bridges activities that are now continuing (or will continue) on institutional funds.

Revised Language:
Applicants are encouraged to use the NIGMS CareerTrac System to provide data on student outcomes for up to 15 years, if applicable. Additionally, applicants must provide a summary of student outcomes for up to 15 years, if applicable, in the narrative of the progress report. The expected student outcomes include the following:

Continuation support will not be provided until the required forms are submitted and accepted. Programs that involve participants should report on education in the responsible conduct of research and complete a Training Diversity Report, in accordance with the RPPR Instruction Guide. Programs that involve participants should report on education in the responsible conduct of research. Grantees are encouraged to use NIGMS CareerTrac to report Bridges student outcomes in progress for RPPRs.
