PA-21-151 - NIH Support for Conferences and Scientific Meetings (Parent R13 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)
National Eye Institute (NEI)
This Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) is to solicit applications to support conferences, symposia, and workshops aimed at supporting the National Eye Institute’s (NEI) Audacious Goals Initiative.
Background
The Audacious Goals Initiative (AGI) for Regenerative Medicine is an effort by the National Eye Institute (NEI) to support science on vision restoration through replacement of retinal cells damaged by disease or injury and to restore their connections to the visual centers of the brain. AGI research specifically targets photoreceptors and retinal ganglion cells. In addition to funding research initiatives, the NEI has organized workshops, seminars, and symposia to support the AGI.
Objectives
The objective of this NOSI is to encourage the research community to organize targeted scientific meetings that would supplement current NEI’s AGI efforts. Topics might include but are not limited to stem cell differentiation, retinal cell and tissue transplantation, conversion of endogenous cell types to photoreceptors and/or retinal ganglion cells, creating a permissive environment for regeneration and reconnection, or other topics relevant to the goals of AGI. We particularly encourage the merging of expertise from multiple disciplines including non-vision related fields. Either in-person or virtual meeting formats will be considered provided they include adequate opportunity for interaction among attendees.
The NEI encourages enhanced participation of junior scientists and trainees.
