Issued by
National Eye Institute (http://www.nei.nih.gov/)

Purpose

The purpose of this Notice is to inform the vision research field that the NEI will not accept applications for PAS-06-207, Interactions Between Stem and Progenitor Cells and the Microenvironment (R03), published on March 9, 2006 at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAS-06-207.html. The NEI is no longer participating in the R03 grant program, as announced in NOT-EY-06-001, Notice of National Eye Institute Plans for Transition of Support for the Small Grant (R03) and Exploratory/Developmental Grant (R21) Mechanisms, published on March 8, 2006 at http://grants1.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-EY-06-001.html .

The NEI continues to invite applications for studies on the cellular and molecular signaling between the local environment within the visual system and stem and progenitor cells that are either introduced as transplants or that normally reside within the ocular system. Such investigation can be supported through either of two Funding Opportunity Announcements of identical scientific scope which utilize the traditional research project grant (R01) [http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAS-05-092.html] and the exploratory/developmental (R21)[http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAS-06-208.html] award mechanisms, respectively.
