Purpose

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) intends to issue an Other Transactions (OT) Research Opportunity Announcement (ROA) for organizations to participate in the East Palestine, Ohio Train Derailment Study.

NIEHS plans to provide up to $2 million in FY2025 and will use the Other Transactions (OT) mechanism.

This Research Opportunity Announcement (ROA) aims to establish a program that will involve non-traditional NIH partnerships to coordinate health-related research with public health department needs and clinical practice for the residents living in Ohio and Pennsylvania who were impacted by the Norfolk Southern train derailment. The overarching goal is to create a program that is co-developed by the community, academic researchers and other stakeholders to address immediate health concerns, as well as to provide the infrastructure and data needs to enable an understanding of the long-term health impacts from exposure to the chemicals released as a consequence of the train derailment.

Awards are anticipated for FY2025 and the timeline for funding opportunity publication, application publication, NIH review and establishment of awards is accelerated.

This Notice does not commit the Government to fund other transaction awards. This Notice is for informational purposes only. It is not a formal ROA, Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), or Broad Agency Announcement (BAA). Do not submit any proposals or applications to this Notice. All information contained in this Notice is subject to change at any time.
