Purpose

The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) is issuing this Notice to highlight interest in receiving Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant applications focused in the following areas:

  • Modeling and Simulation Technologies
    • Development of “virtual coaches” that incorporate intelligent technologies into existing simulators to provide adaptive, cognitive assistance to coach experienced practitioners in retaining, retraining and improving performance levels
    • Development of medical simulation technologies that have broad diagnostic, therapeutic and interventional applications in diseases or health conditions, including complicated or rare procedures relevant to skilled practitioners in rural and low-resource settings
  • Pediatric Technologies
    • Development of imaging hardware, such as MRI coils, for pediatric populations
    • Development of therapeutic devices, such as High Intensity Ultrasound probes, for pediatric populations
  • Point-of-Care Ultrasound Technologies
    • Development of ultrasound technologies for diagnosis, monitoring, therapy, or drug delivery that can be used at the point-of-care
  • Clinical Decision Support Technologies
    • Development of clinical decision support system or software that is intended for the purpose of displaying, analyzing, or printing medial information, as well as supporting or providing recommendations.
    • Systems or software functions intended for making clinical diagnostic or treatment decisions rather than recommendations are out of scope of this NOSI.

Application and Submission Information

This notice applies to due dates on or after January 5, 2020 and subsequent receipt dates through January 6, 2021.

Submit applications for this initiative through one of the following funding opportunity announcements (FOAs) or any reissues of these announcements through the expiration date of this notice.

  • For funding consideration, applicants must include “NOT-EB-19-023” (without quotation marks) in the Agency Routing Identifier field (box 4B) of the SF424 R&R form. Applications without this information in box 4B will not be considered for this initiative.
Applications nonresponsive to terms of this NOSI will be not be considered for the NOSI initiative.
