Purpose

The purpose of this Notice is to update the research priorities for PA-18-615: Pilot and Feasibility Studies of HIV and Animal Models for HIV Infection within the Mission of NIDDK (R21 Clinical Trial Optional) to align with the updated NIH HIV/AIDS research priorities and guidelines for determining HIV/AIDS funding as described in NOT-OD-20-018: UPDATE: NIH HIV/AIDS Research Priorities and Guidelines for Determining HIV/AIDS Funding.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications for innovative basic and translational research projects examining HIV infection, persistence, and comorbidities as they relate to the mission of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and consistent with the scientific priorities outlined by the NIH Office of AIDS Research (OAR) in NOT-OD-15-137: NIH HIV/AIDS Research Priorities and Guidelines for Determining AIDS Funding.

Objectives and Scope

This funding opportunity is intended to encourage pilot and feasibility projects on basic, translational, or clinical HIV research within the mission of the NIDDK. Projects may involve exempt or nonexempt human subjects research or may investigate the consequences of HIV infection through animal models of HIV pathogenesis including, but not limited to, infection of nonhuman primates by simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV). Applications that are not consistent with the NIH HIV/AIDS research priorities outlined by the NIH Office of AIDS Research (OAR) as described in NOT-OD-15-137 will not be supported by this FOA.
