This is to inform potential applicants that the Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet plans to further expand its clinical trial network of Affiliate sites by identifying additional institutions that are prepared to serve the role of a Major Affiliate. TrialNet Major Affiliates provide direct TrialNet presence in communities that do not now have a Clinical Center or Major Affiliate and serve as clinical sites (treatment and follow-up) for TrialNet studies. Major Affiliates receive direct infrastructure funding for TrialNet activities as well as reimbursement for patient care costs via a subcontract with the George Washington University TrialNet Coordinating Center.
TrialNet is a network of medical centers aimed at studying the development, prevention and early treatment of type 1 diabetes. TrialNet is conducting multiple clinical trials with investigators from 28 Clinical Centers and Major Affiliates in North America, Europe, and Australia. The TrialNet Natural History Study will provide information about risk factors associated with the development of type 1 diabetes in relatives of affected individuals. TrialNet is also performing intervention studies aimed at preservation of insulin-producing cells in individuals at risk for type 1 diabetes as well as in persons newly diagnosed with diabetes.
