The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)
is announcing a limited competition for competing applications from NIDDK-
designated Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) Clinical Centers and the DPP
Coordinating Center. The DPP is a multicenter controlled clinical trial
examining the efficacy of an intensive life-style intervention or metformin
to prevent or delay the onset of diabetes in a population at risk due to the
presence of impaired glucose tolerance (IGT). This post-DPP follow-up study
is intended to enable DPP investigators to continue a long-term follow-up of
the DPP cohort. The DPP cohort, including 45% minorities, is the largest
population of individuals with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) ever to be
studied. The DPP Clinical Centers and the DPP Coordinating Center possess
the infrastructure, organization, leadership, staffing and randomized cohort
of volunteers to address clinically important research questions that will
remain following study end.
NIDDK staff will contact the current grantees directly regarding application
procedures and format.
