Purpose

This Notice corrects eligibility information in Section III of PAR-25-027, NIDCR Dentist Scientist Career Transition Award for Intramural Investigators (K22 Clinical Trial Not Allowed).

Section III. Eligibility Information

1. Eligible Applicants

Eligible Organizations

Currently reads (deleted text in italics): Only NIH Intramural Programs are eligible to apply for the mentored Phase I of the K22 program on behalf of intramural candidates. For the independent phase, the sponsoring institution may be private (profit or nonprofit) or public, including the NIH Intramural Programs. Federal laboratories, including the NIH Intramural Programs, are not eligible to apply for the independent phase.

Modified to read (modified text in bold): Only NIH Intramural Programs are eligible to apply for the mentored Phase I of the K22 program on behalf of intramural candidates. For the independent phase, the sponsoring institution may be private (profit or nonprofit) or public. Federal laboratories, including the NIH Intramural Programs, are not eligible to apply for the independent phase.

Eligible Individuals (Program Director/Principal Investigator)

Currently reads (deleted text in italics): Candidates for the K22 award must have a clinical or research doctorate (including PhD, MD, DO, DC, ND, DDS, DMD, DVM, ScD, DNS, PharmD, or equivalent doctoral degree), or a combined clinical and research doctoral degree. Individuals for the K22 award not affiliated with an organization may also apply (specific information is available for unaffiliated candidates).

Modified to read (modified text in bold): Candidates for the K22 award must have earned a clinical dental doctoral degree (DDS, DMD or equivalent) or a combined dental (DDS, DMD, or equivalent) and research doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent). At the time of application, the candidate must be in an NIH intramural postdoctoral fellowship position and have demonstrated potential for a productive basic or clinical research career.  

3. Additional Information on Eligibility

Level of Effort

Currently reads (deleted text in italics): At the time of award, the candidate must have a “full-time” appointment at the academic institution.

Modified to read (modified text in bold): At the time of award, the candidate must have a “full-time” appointment to the NIH Intramural Program. 

All other aspects of this NOFO remain unchanged.
