Purpose

The purpose of this Notice is to inform potential applicants that the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) is participating in PA-14-044 "Mentored Research Scientist Development Award (Parent K01)."

NIDCR's focus will be on supporting individuals with high potential to re-enter an active research career in dental, oral or craniofacial research after an interruption for family responsibilities or other qualifying circumstances. The goal of the NIDCR K01 program is to encourage such individuals to re-enter research careers and to provide a pathway of individual mentored career development to assist in re-establishing a vibrant research career.

It is envisioned that this program will also provide individuals supported by NIDCR Re-Entry Administrative Supplements (PA-15-321) an opportunity to transition to a mentored career development award (K). For early career applicants, such as postdoctoral or junior faculty candidates who have not yet achieved independent peer reviewed research support, this K01 program provides an opportunity for an NIH grant writing experience and a pathway to strengthen their trajectory towards research independence. This program is designed for eligible candidates to identify a mentor or mentoring team to guide their re-entry into a research career in areas relevant to the mission of the NIDCR, as described in the NIDCR Strategic Plan 2014 2019.

The following sections of PA-14-044 have been updated to reflect the participation of NIDCR in this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA).
