The NIDCR issued a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) titled Exploratory and Developmental Grants in Clinical Research (R21) (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-06-246.html) on March 17, 2006.

The purpose of this Notice is to clarify the Research Objectives for PAR-06-246. Studies that include basic or preclinical research are NOT appropriate for submission under this FOA and should instead, be submitted in response to the parent R21 solicitation PA-06-181 (http://grants2.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PA-06-181.html).

PAR-06-246 is restricted to clinical research studies. These clinical studies may be exploratory, pilot or feasibility studies. Applications for clinical trials (applications that include randomization to treatment groups) are NOT appropriate for submission under PAR-06-246.
