Purpose
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) intends to reissue PA-18-568, International Research Collaboration on Drug Abuse and Addiction Research (R01 Clinical Trial Optional) to solicit applications to encourage collaborative research applications on drug abuse and addiction.
This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects.
The FOA is expected to be published in May 2018 with an expected application due date in June 2018.
This FOA will utilize the R01 activity code.
Details of the planned FOA are provided below.
This Notice encourages investigators with expertise and insights in any area of NIDA-supported research and access to resources outside the United States to begin to consider applying for this new FOA.
Collaborative investigations combining expertise in the following areas will be particularly encouraged and these investigators should also begin considering applying for this application: linkages between HIV/AIDS and drug abuse; prevention, initiation, and treatment of nicotine and tobacco use (especially among vulnerable populations such as children, adolescents, pregnant women, and those with comorbid disorders); the nature, extent, short- and long-term sequelae, prevention, and treatment of opioid overdoses and use of new psychoactive substances; the neuroscience of marijuana and cannabinoids; and the effects of changes in laws and policies on marijuana.
Among the areas of research encouraged in this initiative are basic research examining the mechanisms that underlie the effects of drug abuse and addiction, as well as research designed to improve the translation of existing knowledge of strategies for the prevention and treatment of drug abuse and addiction.
