Purpose
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) intends to issue a Request for Applications (RFA) to solicit applications for research addressing HIV in criminal justice populations and empirically testing components of the “Seek, Test, and Treat” hypothesis including the development, implementation, and testing of strategies to improve the provision of HIV testing in criminal justice-involved populations and the provision of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) to HIV seropositive individuals involved with criminal justice system, with particular focus on continuity of HAART during and after community re-entry following incarceration. Intervention research at the individual, organizational, or system level within the criminal justice system and community organizations working with criminal justice systems and populations will be appropriate for this RFA.
This notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects.
This RFA will utilize the R01 grant mechanism and encourages multi PI applications and/or multisite studies. Studies may exceed $500K in direct costs if the scope of the project warrants it. The RFA is expected to be published in October 2009.
