Notice Number: NOT-DA-08-039
Key Dates
Release Date: September 17, 2008
Issued by
National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), (http://www.nida.nih.gov/)
Currently, the salary cap on Midcareer Investigator Award in Patient-Oriented Research (K24) grants supported by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is $90,000 (NOT-DA-06-013). Effective October, 2008, NIDA is removing this salary cap and providing the maximum salary allowable under the funding opportunity announcement PA-08-151 (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PA-08-151.html#SectionII). This change is for NIDA applications only, all other aspects of this FOA will remain unchanged.
This policy will apply to all applications submitted on or after the October 12, 2008 submission date.
The actual salary provided by the award is based on a full-time, 12-month staff appointment at the sponsoring institution, the Principal Investigator’s (PI’s) institutional base salary, and the level of effort requested, up to the maximum legislated salary rate in effect at the time of award (for FY 2008, see: NOT-OD-08-035). In all cases, the salary requested must be consistent both with the established salary structure at the institution and with salaries actually provided by the institution from its own funds to other staff members of equivalent qualifications, rank, and responsibilities in the department concerned. If full-time, 12-month salaries are not currently paid to comparable staff members, the salary proposed must be appropriately related to the existing salary structure. The K24 FOA requires levels of effort between 3-6 person months (or 25-50 percent effort).
NIDA will continue to provide up to $50,000 in research support on these grants.
