PURPOSE

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) announces the availability
of funds for administrative supplements to existing NIDA-supported
research project grants (R01) and exploratory/developmental grants
(R21) to study issues related to the transition from illicit drug use
to addiction. This topic has been identified by the National Advisory
Council on Drug Abuse as a major area of research need, requiring new,
intensive, and focused attention. Information about the administrative
supplements can be found at
http://www.nida.nih.gov/funding/addictiongrant.html. NIDA also intends to
solicit new research proposals targeting transition issues during FY
2001. Together the supplement program and other initiatives will
rapidly develop a research focus on this important issue.
