National Cancer Institute (NCI)
Purpose
The purpose of this Notice is to amend PA-17-211 "Nutrition and Alcohol-Related Health Outcomes (R01)" to better describe the specific interests of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in this area of research.
PA-17-211 is hereby modified only by the addition (insertion) of the following paragraph at the end of Part 2. Full Text of Announcement, Section I. Funding Opportunity Description, just before the final sentence, which is "See Section VIII. Other Information for award authorities and regulations."
Alcohol consumption is associated with increased incidence of and mortality from certain cancers including those of the oral cavity, pharynx, esophagus, colorectum, liver, larynx, and female breast. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is interested in fostering research focused on identifying the interactions between alcohol consumption and dietary patterns or alcohol consumption and energy balance as it relates to cancer prevention and control. Studies that target subpopulations traditionally underrepresented in research (e.g., race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and/or geographic location) are particularly encouraged.
All other aspects of PA-17-211 remain the same.
