Part 2. Section I. Funding Opportunity Description

National Cancer Institute (NCI)

The NCI encourages submission of applications for transdisciplinary training that will lead to delivery and development of evidence-based interventions intended to provide improved behavioral and cognitive support for individuals across the care continuum from primary prevention, to early detection, to diagnosis and treatment, to survivorship, and at end-of-life. NCI has a particular interest in understanding how engineering approaches can be melded with behavioral approaches to improve the translation and implementation of evidence-based approaches within operational systems of care and community-based public health systems.

This work may include data collection methods and data communications and surveillance. Investigators who are focusing their training on development and testing of applications that take a systems or multi-level or multi-component approach in communication and delivery of behavior change or disease management in cancer prevention and control for individual/patient level and health care provider, or community organization, or health care systems level are especially encouraged. These applications should include training that would examine individual and organizational behavior change mechanisms for adoption and usability of the technology and allow for testing aspects of the technology that explain intervention efficacy. Investigators are strongly encouraged to discuss their research plans with NCI program staff prior to submitting their application.
