Purpose

The purpose of this Notice is to clarify the Project Roles, in PAR-18-342, NCI Research Specialist (Core-based Scientist) Award (R50). The Research Specialist must be the PD/PI of the application. The Unit Director must not be the PD/PI. However, the Unit Director should be included as Senior/Key Personnel participating as an Other Significant Contributor. Both the Research Specialist and the Unit Director must include a Biosketch as it states in the Application Guide.

Any individual(s) with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research as the Program Director(s)/Principal Investigator(s) (PD(s)/PI(s)) is invited to work with his/her organization to develop an application for support. Individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups as well as individuals with disabilities are always encouraged to apply for NIH support.
 Multiple PD/PIs are not permitted for the Research Specialist Award. Only single-PI Research Specialist applications are allowed. Applications with multiple-PI Research Specialists will not be accepted.

As noted in the Application Guide, all Other Significant Contributors must submit a biographical sketch.
