Purpose

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) participates in the NIH Parent Program Announcement PA-16-294 "NIH Support for Conferences and Scientific Meetings (R13)."

The purpose of this Notice is to clarify that various cancer-related topics for conferences and scientific meetings that are appropriate for PA-16-294 include topics that are relevant to the scientific mission of the NCI's Center for Global Health, which is to help reduce the global burden of cancer.

Conferences and scientific meetings may address emerging opportunities in global cancer research and/or create sustainable international cancer research partnerships. Conferences that focus on regionally-relevant cancers; cancers with an atypical phenotype, incidence, or biology; or cancers associated with chronic infection including HIV-associated malignancies are encouraged to apply. This list is not meant to be exhaustive and one conference may cover more than one aspect.

Conferences and scientific meetings proposing to incorporate one or more of the following scientific disciplines are of particular interest to NCI's Center for Global Health: (1) cancer prevention and control; (2) cancer detection and diagnosis, including anatomic and clinical pathology; (3) dissemination and implementation research; (4) health surveillance including cancer registries; and (5) cancer-relevant informatics and mobile Health (mHealth).

No aspect of the parent R13 announcement PA-16-294 is changed by this Notice. Moreover, this Notice should NOT be construed as any limitation in the scope of conference topics that may be proposed in R13 applications for NCI support through PA-16-294 - the NCI encourages applications for support for cancer-relevant conferences/scientific meetings on any topic that is within the NCI scientific mission.
