Purpose

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) intends to publish a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) for administrative supplements to the NCI Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Institutional Research Training Grant (T32) and the Paul Calabresi Career Development Award for Clinical Oncology (K12) as part of the Continuing Umbrella of Research Experiences (CURE) Program. This FOA will solicit applications from Program Directors/Principal Investigators (PDs/PIs) of NCI-supported T32 and K12 grants that will support eligible and qualified candidates from the underrepresented populations in addition to the candidates supported by the parent grants. This upcoming FOA will formalize previously published guidelines for the Supplements to the NCI Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award Institutional Research Training Grant (T32s) and Guidelines for the Supplements to the Paul Calabresi Career Development Award for Clinical Oncology (K12s). The overall goals are to promote diversity in the cancer research workforce by increasing participation from underrepresented students and scientists in NCI-funded institutional training and career development grants. The participants will benefit from institutional training programs as well as the resources provided by the CURE program.

This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects.

The FOA is expected to be published in the winter of 2015 with an expected application due date in the spring of 2016.

This FOA will be for Administrative Supplements only. Details of the planned FOA are provided below.

Research Initiative Details

This Notice encourages all PDs/PIs of NCI-supported T32 and K12 grants to begin to consider applying for this new FOA.

This Notice encourages PDs/PIs of NCI-supported T32 and K12 grants to identify eligible and qualified students and scientists from the underrepresented populations who are outstanding candidates for the T32 or K12 training programs in addition to candidates who are supported by the parent T32 or K12 grants. Emphasis will be placed on applications that include a highly motivated candidate, strong mentorship, a candidate-specific career development plan and a well-designed research project of appropriate scope. For supplements to the T32, projects that employ interdisciplinary approaches in cancer research are encouraged.

APPLICATIONS ARE NOT BEING SOLICITED AT THIS TIME.
