PURPOSE

This Notice is to inform potential applicants that, effective immediately, the National Cancer Institute (NCI), (http://www.nci.nih.gov) is joining the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), (http://www.nccam.nih.gov) and Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS/NIH), (http://ods.od.nih.gov) in participating on the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) RFA-AT-11-001 Mechanistic Research on CAM Natural Products (R01). The NCI does not assign any specific set-aside funds to this FOA. Although the financial plans of the NCI provide support for this program, awards pursuant to NCI joining RFA-AT-11-001 are contingent upon the availability of funds and the receipt of a sufficient number of meritorious applications proposing projects relevant to the programmatic priorities of the NCI.

  • Exploring the mechanistic bases for combining natural products/food components with conventional approaches to cancer prevention and/or treatment; and
  • Identifying potential, mechanism-based biomarkers predicting beneficial or harmful effects (in terms of cancer prevention, treatment efficacy or cancer risk modulation) by dietary constituents or other natural products of interest to complementary and alternative medicine.
