The purpose of this Notice is to clarify and revise the Research Objectives in PA-08-267,Exploratory Studies in Cancer Detection, Diagnosis, and Prognosis (R21).

A. Part II – Full text of Announcement; Section I. Funding Opportunity Description; 1. Research Objectives; Background.  The following text has been added:

Applications focused on imaging research are not appropriate for this announcement.  However, applications involving studies that are focused on the development of diagnostic, prognostic, and/or predictive markers and that contain a very minor non-human imaging component are appropriate.

B. 1. Part II – Full text of Announcement; Section I. Funding Opportunity Description; 1. Research Objectives; Specific Research Objectives. The following correction has been made:

The subtitle “Appropriate topics for pilot human nutrition research and/or validation studies under this initiative include, but are not limited to, the following examples:”

Should correctly read

“Appropriate topics for pilot research and/or validation studies utilizing biospecimens from human subjects or human cell lines under this initiative include, but are not limited to, the following examples:”

In addition, the word “nutrition” should not have been in that sentence and has been deleted; studies specifically related to nutrition are not appropriate for this funding opportunity.
