AVAILABILITY OF NCI ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES APPLICABLE TO 
BREAST, PROSTATE, OVARIAN, AND HEAD AND NECK CANCERS

National Cancer Institute

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) announces the availability of web-based 
information and announcements which describe current NCI funding opportunities 
available to researchers interested in research in all disciplines relevant to 
cancers of the breast, prostate, ovary, and head and neck.  These 
announcements have been developed in response to recommendations by Progress 
Review Groups (PRGs) or similar types of priority setting workshops addressing 
the listed cancers.  Currently, the NCI has several PRGs either in various 
stages of deliberations or planned.  More information on PRGs is available at: 
http://osp.nci.nih.gov/prg_assess/default.htm.  Additional announcements will 
be developed in response to recommendations from these PRGs as their reports 
are completed.

The purpose of the announcements is to acquaint researchers with the diverse 
opportunities supported by the NCI that either address general research themes 
or are focused on disease specific questions.  The NCI intends to give special 
attention to research applications which address high-priority gap areas 
described in the reports of these PRGs and working groups.  The reports and 
announcements are available on-line at: 
http://cancer.gov/scienceresources/initiatives.html.  Only research in the 
disease sites highlighted in announcements on the website will be considered 
for the purposes of this opportunity.  In order to mark an application for 
special consideration, investigators will be asked to cite the relevant 
section(s) of the specific report and include the following language in the 
Background section of their grant application:  The research described in this 
application is responsive to recommendations in the Report of the xxxxxxx 
Cancer Progress Review Group.  Do not insert this statement on the face page 
of the application.
