This Request for Information (RFI) is to solicit public comments on existing immunology resources, the future needs of the research community, and potential future direction(s) of data and knowledge management that will enable the Division of Allergy, Immunology and Transplantation (DAIT), National Institute of Allergy and infectious Diseases (NIAID), to determine the need for a knowledgebase for immunology research and, if so, its scope and functionalities.
Scientific knowledge generated from immunology research has been primarily disseminated in the form of research manuscripts published through the literature. Although this process has served researchers well in the past, the sheer volume and complexity of knowledge now being generated in immunology research has become a barrier to efficient and comprehensive knowledge consumption.
Digital resources do exist for immunology knowledge; however, these resources remain siloed and lack concerted efforts for cross-resource standardization, authentication, and integration.
This RFI seeks broad input from all stakeholders with an interest in immunology knowledge management.
