PA-20-272 - Administrative Supplements to Existing NIH Grants and Cooperative Agreements (Parent Admin Supp Clinical Trial Optional)

Issued by

National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)

Purpose

The purpose of this Notice is to highlight NIAID’s interest in accepting administrative supplement applications from current NIAID awardees focused on Lyme disease or other tickborne illnesses, including the alpha-gal syndrome. Applications designed to develop preliminary discoveries or to initiate translation of basic science discoveries into new tools for preventing, diagnosing or treating tick-borne diseases are encouraged.

Research Objectives

To catalyze and accelerate the pace and achievement of scientific research related to Lyme disease and other tickborne illnesses, NIAID is encouraging the submission of applications for administrative supplements to active NIAID awards to enable advancement of discoveries made as part of the current award. Supplements should address 1) novel discoveries made during the current funding period that would require additional preliminary data before a competitive grant application could be prepared to fully investigate those discoveries, or 2) early studies to initiate translation of basic science discoveries into vaccines, diagnostics, or therapeutics.

Eligibility

  • Only existing NIAID-funded awardees are eligible to apply.
  • Parent grant must address a tick-borne infectious disease or alpha-gal syndrome.
  • Proposed project period of the supplement cannot extend beyond the project period of the parent award.
  • Parent grant may not be in its first or last 12 months of award at the time the supplement is requested.
  • Awards in a No Cost Extension (NCE) by the time the supplement would be made are ineligible.
  • Supplement may not request funds to add vertebrate animals or human subjects that are not already part of the parent grant.
  • Supplements requesting new foreign components are not allowed.
